Weight Loss Realities - Lose Weight Eating Donuts? Why Not?

What's more ridiculous, the idea that the health care profession completely understands the human body and has still created a situation where over two-thirds of the U.S. population is overweight, or the idea that maybe they're wrong about their "obvious" assumptions about food, fat, and weight-loss? If you understand a problem, and are taking the proper steps to resolve it, the problem would go away. If you make assumptions about a problem - based on what you believe to be obvious observations - and your actions seem to only make matters worse, it is time to reevaluate what you think you know about the situation. In the case of America's futile efforts to win the "battle of the bulge," we have been operating on a false premise all along; food is not the enemy, our ideas about diet and nutrition are.

The idea that food doesn't make you fat is an easy one to shout-down because there's no profit in this approach; no drugs, no surgery, diet plans, gym memberships, or exercise equipment is necessary if we've got it all wrong. Those are the tools of our old way of looking at things; and those tools haven't solved the problem. It's easy for the corporations to turn around and blame their customers for being lazy, unmotivated, undisciplined, or just too stupid to do the right thing and lose the weight with the products and services that are made available to them - for a fee, of course. But this simply isn't true.

In fact, the American public is very adept at "following orders" and "doing what they're told;" that's practically all we do in this country. One of the reasons we're overweight in the first place is because we let the television tell us what to eat and how to live.

It is said that the definition of "insanity" is to keep doing the same things and expecting something different to happen. Well, Americans are programmed to do just that; just look around and it's easy to see. But what we've been told hasn't made things better; it's made them worse. We've been fed lies and junk-food all of our lives; and we wonder why we aren't happy and healthy. "Gosh, I watch television all day and they tell me to lay off the sodas; so I drink diet sodas - but I'm still fat!" Imagine that. Wake-up, America; and have a donut. The truth is, there is scientific evidence that proves food doesn't make you fat, and that you can actually eat anything you want and remain fit and healthy - even losing the weight you've battled against for so long. That's right; you can actually eat donuts and lose weight anyway!
Though I'm not recommending a diet of strictly donuts; I am saying that there's nothing particularly sinister about a donut that should make you afraid, or should make you believe that it is any better or worse for you than many of the other foods you eat on a daily basis. Sure donuts have fat and carbohydrates in them; but so do most foods - and you need fat and carbohydrates in your diet. But what you need even more is a better understanding of the factors that cause your body to produce and store fat - namely, your beliefs, DNA, and stress (essentially, your programming and your response to that programming). There's much more to the food-fat-diet-weight equation than you've been told; and the biggest enemy you could ever face is ignorance - whether you ignored the obvious, or were mislead intentionally or unintentionally.

Your body is designed to take-in nutrients and use what it can to build what it needs - repairing and replacing millions and millions of cells in your body each day. If you eat only lettuce, and cut your arm, some of the nutrients in the lettuce will be used to repair the skin, muscle, fat, nerves, and anything else you need to repair; but the same is true if you ate only donuts - or anything else. Your body will find what it needs and use it. While it may be true that we were designed to eat the things that occur naturally in our environments; it is also true that we were made to adapt - and that everything in our environment is made of energy (mostly in the form of Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon, and Nitrogen) and is fair game in the struggle to survive and thrive. The basic elements each cell in our bodies is made from are readily available in most of the things we might find to eat.

Consider that cows eat grass and drink water; yet they produce hundreds of pounds of meat and fat - and an almost endless supply of milk for dairy products such as cheese, cream, etc. What if cows ate ice cream and steak? Now consider that babies start their lives drinking milk; and then they move on to include grains, meat, sugar, chips, sodas, and French fries - among other things. Throughout life, however, cows, horses, and humans all turn whatever they eat into the same kinds of cells - hair, skin, muscle, fat, bone, nerve, etc. We eat what we can find to eat; and our bodies turn it into what they think we need. Sure, we can certainly cause our bodies to eat themselves through starvation; but, in doing so, we also condition our bodies to take extra precautions against starvation as soon as food is available - which is why people often rebound from reduced-calorie diets by gaining more weight than they lost.

The primary factor in all of this is how each individual is programmed to deal with food. Are you programmed to hold on to things because of an unconscious fear that there may not be enough? As a child, did you perhaps hear someone speak of starving children in Africa, lack, or scarcity? Consider that the stress hormone Cortisol is primarily responsible for converting food into fat for storage; and that hormone is only released when you are stressed. Many so-called "diet-remedies" block the production of Cortisol; but this is a very stupid thing to do to your body. Your body manufactures Cortisol for very good reasons; the smart way - and the only healthy way - to reduce Cortisol levels is to reduce stress levels. If you can learn to manage your stress, then you can essentially eat anything you want - including donuts - without worrying about gaining a bunch of unwanted fat.

In fact, learning to control and manage stress is the key to healthy weight-loss and weight-management. I actually lost 55-pounds in a very short period of time after realizing some of the things I've just shared with you; and I did it without dieting or giving-up donuts. In fact, I actually lost weight while enjoying donuts whenever I had a chance to eat them. Of course, I changed the way I looked at food so it didn't stress me out to eat donuts - or anything else, for that matter. If I were afraid donuts would make me fat, I'm sure they would; that's just the way the body works. But I'm not afraid donuts will make me fat; and they don't. Enjoy your food; savor it. Eat slowly and don't overindulge. Food is an experience; it is a gift. Bless the food you eat, and give thanks for it. Don't make food your enemy; if you do, you will constantly be at war and in a state of stress. And stress is the only thing that can really make you fat.
