Start with a moderately paced warm-up and then ramp your pace up until you peak at your maximum effort and back down. Repeat this a few more times.

3. Keep records. The most helpful tip is to keep a food journal and an exercise journal. This eliminates guessing and gives you a record to look back on that will help you trouble shoot problems.
