Weight Loss and Food - How to Make the Two Work Together

When it comes to losing weight, you may think that the answer is simple: Eat less. But if you ask those people who tried starving themselves hoping to lose weight, you will know it simply do not work. The last thing you would do when it comes to losing weight, is to skip meals. I would rather you eating low calorie foods that make you feel full than skipping it totally.

Breakfast is perhaps the most common meal people skipped, but it actually doesn't get you anywhere.

 Although a lot of people think that they will cut calories by skipping breakfast, studies show that eating breakfast can actually helps you consume fewer calories for the day. Those who did not consume breakfast will end up consuming more for the rest of the day. We should also refrain from eating empty calorie such as donuts, sweets or potato chips, as they are high in calories yet low in nutritional content like vitamins, fiber etc. These are the foods that you will most likely end up consuming in the event that you skipped your breakfast.

The key is to consume low calorie foods that make you feel full, preferably food which are high in fiber or protein. High-fiber cereal is a good start for the day compared to eating bacon and eggs.

Some of other food high in fiber are whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables. High fiber food have few calories, little fat, and they serve their purpose of making you full for a long time. They take a longer time to digest which also means that your blood sugar will remain relative constant for a long time.

Foods which are high in protein are also beneficial in your weight losing journey. A study by the Medical Research Council team at University College London found the Peptide YY (PYY) released into the body when a person eats high-protein foods could be sending "full" signals to the brain. In fact many appetite suppressants on sale work by promoting the production of PYY. So it is a good idea to include high-protein foods such as chicken, fish and beans into your diet.

So before you complain that food are causing you to gain weight, perhaps it is a good idea to take a closer look at what consists of your daily diet.
