I'm sure everyone remembers one of the most popular weight loss
crazes that swept the nation a few years back, the infamous Atkins Low
Carb Diet. I get asked all the time if this is a great plan to follow. I
think this plan has its pro's and con's. Here's a list of things to
consider before jumping on this diet.
1. The beginning of this weight loss diet can be extremely hard to get used too. Your bodies main source of energy is the carbohydrates you infiltrate it with, the absence of carbohydrates puts your body into a shock mode, but leaves you a bit drained for the first few days until your body converts to your fat stores for energy.
2. Will power is a must on this diet. I don't care who you are, by the 2nd week on any low carb diet a little bit of will power is needed. Naturally these cravings will subside but you WILL want a little bread or sugar. Hopefully the rapid weight loss you are experiencing will be motivating enough to keep it up.
3. You drop weight VERY quickly. When you are on a low carb diet, your body goes to work very quickly on any stored fat you have. Your body needs energy in any way it can get it, so it will go to your fat stores when there isn't any carbs left to convert to energy. This weight loss change is called ketosis, and is a great place to be, this is where the rapid weight loss occurs.
Overall this is a wonderful idea if you are serious about losing weight. There are much easier methods in my humble opinion for rapid weight loss, but if you are strong willed this may be the way to go.
