So many people start off a weight loss program several times a
year, only to be frustrated and stymied by a lack of success. Many
people start as part of a New Years resolution, before summer or a
vacation, or perhaps before a special event like a wedding. Here are
three things you need to keep in mind for success.
1) No one is perfect, and that includes you and your commitment to your program. Some days you might eat a bit too much or skip an exercise session. That doesn't means you failed. You need to keep pursuing your program. If you eat a bag of potato chips, that does not ruin your diet. Don't go eat a pizza, a cheesecake, and drink 10 beers after work. There will be occasional setbacks, but they are all minor if you keep moving forwards.
2) Set reasonable goals. If you lose 25 pounds in a year you are much more like to keep it off than if you lose 25 pounds in 3 months, and it is healthier too. If you decide to start running for your fitness, you will not be running marathons within a year most likely. Start slowly and wisely!
3) Involve your doctor or other medical professional. They should be consulted before you start any new exercise program and certainly before any rapid weight loss routine. Keep them in the loop!
Weight loss and fitness programs have long term goals; your long term health! Don't treat them as a quick fix.
