Studies have shown that calories are the key to weight loss. Whether they are from carbs or fats is not as important as that the total number of them. Those trying to lose weight must know the rule of "calories in, calories out".

The fewer calories you consume, the less you will weigh. If your body burns more calories than what you are eating, you will lose weight, otherwise if you are taking in more calories than your body can use, then you're going to gain weight.

Many diets speak to what kinds of food you should and shouldn't eat
We all have seen the various diets out there, such as the low carb diet, the high protein diet and the low fat diet. But the truth is, the body needs to consume all these major nutrients: carbs, fats and proteins. But we need to be smart and choose the right foods that have these nutrients, such as fresh fruits & vegetables, whole grains, beans and peas. Getting these same nutrients from foods such as white breads, sodas, animal-base meats, sugar-laced foods and all other processed foods should be restricted.

Total Number of Calories is actually most important
In order to lose weight we must lose 3,500 calories for every 1 pound of fat we want to get rid of. So if we want to lose say, 1 pound a week, then we would need to lose an average of 500 calories daily for 7 days to reach our 3,500 calorie loss total for the week. This can be done through combining diet and exercise. But do make sure not to lose too much more than 500 daily calories. The body has a way of protecting against excess weight loss by slowing down your metabolism and refusing to give up the fat. Successful dieters know the rule: "calories in, calories out"
They know that if they stay with eating the right foods (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc.), rather than worrying about the right combination of nutrients, then they will stay within their calorie needs, balance their calories consumed with calories burned, and therefore burn fat instead of storing it.

I hope you know can see that a simple rule must be followed: "calories in, calories out". Contrary to popular belief, the number of calories consumed is more important than where they come from.

While many diets want you to focus on if your calories come from fat or carbs or protein, they are missing a critical point. Always keep in mind, the number of calories you consume is the primary key to managing your weight.
