Weight Loss - Running Off Those Extra Pounds

There are plenty of reasons why people enjoy running, and one of the most popular reasons is to assist with weight loss.

Some other reasons are:
  • The aerobic part of running assists in the decrease of heart disease.
  • No expensive equipment is needed - just a good pair of running shoes.
This list could go on and on, and the two given above are just basic examples.

Now if we think about running and weight loss together it seems like a lot of work to lose a few pounds. To lose the weight while running we need to also concentrate on eating at the correct times.

Never eat (or drink) anything other than water before you set out on your run, and ensure that you keep yourself hydrated while running. Remember running to lose weight takes time, but over this period your health will also increase as your weight slowly decreases.

So the question is - How do you lose weight by running?
Remembering that one pound of body fat contains 3 500 calories, and that walking/running one mile only burns off about 100 calories, you begin to panic as you think that's going to be a long run just to lose that pound of fat. Yes, it is about 35 miles in fact. But don't forget, while running you need to change your eating habits and lay off all those tasty treats you give yourself. This means you are going to take in less calories, which assists with the burning off of calories. If you don't put calories in, the body will start burning off the existing pounds as it needs to find the extra calories you need while running from somewhere.

Your metabolism also increases after a good run, and can still be working up to 2 hours after you're exercise. Which means you will still be burning those calories even at rest. This does not happen on a diet plan. So what are you waiting for? Grab those running shoes and shed those pounds.

A good point to remember is that every bit of muscle you gain helps with your weight loss, as muscles use more calories than fat, even at rest.

So with perseverance and dedication you can take to the local park or roadways and run, run while feeling the freedom of movement, the wind in your hair and the sun on your face, you will soon realize that losing weight while gaining health is the best way to get your natural curves back. Within a few months not only will you look good but you will feel on top of the world and willing to take on that road race you generally watched on the TV.
